I have searched for threads regarding UK suppliers of fixed base routers, and they all appear to be pre 2008.
Just wondering if anyone is aware of a UK supplier of fixed base routers suitable for the incra lift system.
Either 240 or 110 volts

There a few fixed based routers in the uk. Bosch / makita / draper not sure if they fit the incra lift system.
The bosch can be adjusted from above negating the need for a router lift. Other than that i think your only option would be importing from the usa :)

you will have to check the compatibility, but the only fixed based ones that i found on sale are the draper expert one and the bosch (GMF1400 replaced by the 1600 I think). The draper is said to be better than its name suggests and is about £150, the bisch gets excellent reviews but is £400+.

Please post if you find any more, because i do fancy a fixed base one. If not, i will have to choose between the above 2.

does it need to be fixed base, cant you plunge and lock it?

I thought there was one here somewhere recently that came with both bases? Someone said he left the fixed base in the table and used the adjustable one for other jobs. It was expensive and I think it was Makita, or maybe Bosch.

That was probably me and mentioning the new bosch router. But looking at the specs of these lifts. I am not sure it is supported yet for use in the lift.

Seems all of these lifts can only use the motor part from a select few fixed base routers. Most if not all are not freely available in the uk.

can you not import- the reduced costs will offset a lot of the additional shipping. If you use somebody like Amazon, the import fees are paid up front, and shipping is fixed cost. worth a look.

I have found a uK source for Porter cable which are reconditioned but cost nearly as much as a new one, and £20 more than an import.
I will keep looking, but looks like an imprt is the way.. great tip about Amazon.com as they do stock compatible routers.

Thanks

The seller i linked to also pays all the fees upfront for you.
I wish porter cable had a uk importer still. I find their tools excellent.
