Fitting simonswerk tectus hinge without jig

I will be building some internal doors for our house and have seen simonswerk tectus hinges, like the look of them.

Has anyone fitted these without the £750 router jig, ie drilling holes and then chiseling out to make it square?

That shouldn't be hard, (you'd need a router plane or a router), but it would also be simple to make yourself a guide for a router out of MDF and softwood, to suit a straight cutter and a guide plate.
