If my order arrived like that, it would be sent back for a refund. I would then shop elsewhere after that. I have had orders from axminster in boxes that sort of size and the whole thing has been stuffed with bubble wrap etc. :)

Problem is that I live in Italy, so sending it back is not worth it - I will see if they give me something else!

Ah, sorry didn't see that.

Knowing that parcel was going to Italy you would really expect better wouldn't you?

Very poor.

Exactly. I have sold numerous lenses on ebay that went overseas. NZ, usa, south america. All had bubble wrap around them about 1 inch thick. Then layers of card board, then more bubble wrap. Then finally was in a box with more foam/ bubble wrap etc. Not one arrived damaged. Doesn't take long to wrap things correctly. :)

Reminds me of the state one of my workbenches showed up in - ripped cardboard, missing screws, dented wood and split glue joint on one of the end boards.

Customer service was lousy the last time I'd dealt with them, so this time I didn't even bother calling. The only time I ever order from them now is if the deal is so good that I don't mind having to fix whatever I order when it arrives. Not saying they are always like that - most of my orders arrive ok - but it happens with them more then anyone else I've order from since I moved to the UK.

edit - I would always recommend calling customer service any time you have a problem with a purchase though - not calling, even if they don't actually help you, means they have absolutely no chance to improve their service. I was just really annoyed this time.

In fact, I think I'll email them about it now anyway just so they have a record somewhere. I still don't expect them to actually do anything, of course...

;)

They are an odd entity, some good deals occasionally and to be fair they offer a good range of product - however customer service seems almost begrudgingly offered.

Customer service is key to recommendations, repeat business and all round business health, not sure why some companies see it as a necessary bare minimum evil.

BTW, cool work shop wcndave
