Might have used a bit too much orange! live and learn

I have order some felt to use on the underneath that will be fixed to the non coloured area underneath.

Did you achieve the overall effect you wanted?

Do you not have any method of finishing off the base?

It is very difficult to determine looking at the images but I don't see an overall enhancement of the woods (Ash?) natural grain patterns.
I see more of a highlighting of tooling and sanding marks I'm afraid unless you have a series of shallow beads texturing the basic curve that is giving me that false impression.

Re-colouring, something I'm not very good at myself but you may find that with an open grained wood such as used in this piece applying a light coat of colour and then cutting back the surface with a fine abrasive will highlight the the grain boundaries more and enhance the grain pattern rather than show just differing absorption patterns.
