Finishing Plywood

Hi

I am just puting together my first project; a router table made from birch plywood (apart from the top which is MDF). What sort of good looking - hard wearing finish should I apply to protect the plywood?

Alan, on a workshop tool cabinet made from birch ply I finished with Patina- it is very hard wearing but requires plenty of elbow grease when applying.
