Yesterday I wend visiting and gave a yew bowl to a friend, As it happened they had just cut down a horse chestnut tree. I returned home with a round from it, today split it and roughed out the first blank for drying. As it happens it is fairly shallow and all the angles were easy. The finish you see is straight off my Crown cryo 1/2" bowl gouge. All heavy cuts, with no real hard or soft bits.

Fingers crossed it does not develop a split personality, glad you enjoyed the pleasure of continuous sweeping cuts, not something one encounters as often as you would like on most projects.

Thanks, much easier than something more variable :)

It was amazing how quickly I became knee deep in shavings, nearly fell over when I tried to walk away from the lathe.

Have been told it likes to split, so it is buried in said shavings until I rough out the other two, then will store them individually in paper feed sacks full of fresh shavings, this worked well for pear wood.

Been trying to find a bland "white" wood for some time looking for maple, lime of sycamore, so far no luck. (To fulfil a request).
