hi . could any one reccomend a really good stain ,paint for fence that will last a good while, not impressed with the cheap water stuff at all. cheers mark griffiths

We wanted our fence black and used Bedec barn paint thinned down and only 1 coat, 5 years later it still looks good.

I have just used bedec barn paint, from recommendations on here. I can't vouch for its longevity yet but it was the main factor when I chose it. I went with anthracite grey. The coverage that they suggest is optimistic in my view, I worked out that I needed about 5L to do 2 coats, and even with thinning it did exactly 1 coat. If it lasts 5 years and still looks good, I will forgive it though.

It went on nicely, and I plan to do the back fence using the same stuff.

I have been using Cuprinol Ducksback from Toolstation about £13 for 5l i.e. £2.70 ish per ltr
I see Toolstation offer Bedec barn paint at £58 for 5L i.e. £11.50 per sq ltr

The ducksback on an outside rough sawn fence looks good-ish after about 3 yrs, I am considering perhaps painting again this year.

BUT brambleboy & me welcome any further advice from persons who may advise us to use Bedec barn paint if it will give us many more year between painting.

the Bedec is certainly expensive, but it all depends on the longevity. Nothing beats your own personal experience, but I will have to wait another few years before I will know if it was worth the extra.
