I've just replaced a fence panel with one I made myself. The new panel has vertical square-cut boards with horizontal (square-cut) rails, the top rail being level with the top of the boards. I was wondering whether to add a capping piece as the end-grain of the boards is exposed. But then I thought that if it rains hard the water would get under the cap and the cap would keep the damp in and possibly make things worse.
Any views as to what would work best (cap or no cap)?
Many thanks
(Although this is only one panel, the boss is thinking that another ten panels should be replaced in this style)
