Thought it about time I did some turning so took a couple of hours out from doing the garden and working on another bowl which seems to be taking forever. Not sure of the wood as it is an old rough turned piece from some time ago which did not have any bark or leaves to identify it.
Finished with sander sealer and buffed on Chestnuts three wheel system.

A classic 'user' fruit bowl, looks as though it may be Apple wood Derek.

Don't think the 'plot' has seen so much spring attention for a long time, not quite down to polishing the rockery yet, although low cloud cover may be a problem if the compost heaps get any higher.
Guess shed time will get its chance with the inevitable wet.

Not apple as I have some and not the same. Got plenty of chatter even with the sharpest of tools when I hit the feathered area but got there in the end.

Veg patch all dug and seeds planted in the greenhouse as well as direct-sown seeds in there respective beds.

Beautiful bit of timber, it does look like fruitwood of some kind, and the chatter does suggest Apple, especially if it was very dry, I find Apple to be an extremely hard and dense timber, it cuts OK but your tools have to be freshly sharpened and the slightest "off" moment can induce chatter. But it could also be Pear, doesn't look like Cherry of Damson or Plum though, they have pretty distinctive, very fine medullary rays. Nice bowl too Derek. It would be a pretty brave move to attempt colouring something like that.

I have had someone who is very well up on their timbers say it is sycamore.

Thank you Kim I have coloured wood with grain like this in the past and it can bring out the grain fantastic but this time I decided to go with the natural look
