I want to replace the tongue and groove garage doors I have. They are way bigger than average barn door types. I was thinking of keeping the frames and removing the now rotten tongue and groove planks and simply replacing them but being economic with my time (lazy) I am considering using 1/4 inch marine ply but want it to look like tongue and groove. Is there a router but I can use in conjunction with a long straight edge? Is there a better way? I don't want the doors to be too heavy as that is a primary concern due to hinge limits.

Yes you can rout ply or other sheet materials to look like t&g... there's a common cutter that will achieve it. But if you start with ply that thin there'll be no strength left. Plus you'll increase the likelihood of water getting in.
