As promised here are some pics of what I have come up with to sort the extraction on my Hegner (Other scrollsaws are available ;) )

It's all done in 36mm solvent weld pipe and bends, none of it is welded with the exception of the access plug where 36mm didn't give enough flow and was a bit bulky so used a bit of 20mm electrical conduit and drilled the access plug. Will fill around the pipe externally with hot glue to add support. It's fully removable and adjustable. The 90 bend at the end that connects to my extractor\cyclone is there to keep the footprint down when using it indoors.

Good point!

The bottom clamp on the Hegner is retained by a sprung clamp so may not be an issue.

I'm going to make another mod to deal with the static produced by the PVC pipe. Just going to drill through the clamps on the pipework and install some 25mm self tappers and connect them together with crimps then take it to Earth via an anti static wrist band. Did it on my Cyclone and never got another static belt off it :)

Cheers,

Jon.

The bottom clamp can disappear when a blade breaks, and no matter how tidy your workspace is, chances are that you won't find it again. I think it was ChrisR who came up with the idea of painting clamps bright yellow so that they are easy to spot on the floor. I still managed to lose two clamps. #-o

Thanks for the tips guys, haven't broken a blade as yet; well not on the Hegner ;)

Had just finished cutting an order on the Record when it died, have spent more time getting the Hegner all mounted and the dust extraction sorted as my workshop is a 3Mx3M gazebo in the garden but it will have to come in for the colder and wetter days (to be used) it's always stored indoors nice and dry :)

LOL!

We certainly do and i have lost a few over the fence ;) The current one is like a profession one for shows etc. The frame is very heavy and have 4 high density concrete blocks to anchor it to minus the sides. Far from ideal but it's all I have at the moment.

Clearing some space in the main shed to hopefully move into there in the short term. Going to get some more stuff out of there to sell tomorrow. Planer\Thicknesser and a DeWalt DW742 flip saw. Acquired lots of stuff to fit out the workshop I was going to build. Partner had a massive heart attack in March so had to plans on hold as she is far more important!

Cheers,

Jon.

Brian, I don't know if you were a forum member when Geoff gave me the incentive to make a suction setup for my Hegner, but anyway, here's a photo of it. Works perfectly, and where I used to get dust covering the bike, car, lathe, etc, now I don't get any.

Ah you should be ok until the next hurricane then lol
Sorry to hear about her indoors and hope she's feeling better? I bought a Planer/Thicknesser this year to clean up my recycled wood for the Intarsias and save loads of time but creates plenty of mess!. I have made a different type of extraction system today for my scroll saw and uses no pipes (apart from the one coming from the cyclone) just tried it out and zero dust below the table and very llittle on the top (but did have blower on the top so ignore that bit) mine is made from scrap plywood and bit of perspex and magnets, I will post full details tonight with measurments and photos as its easy to make and will probably adapt for other makes/models of scroll saws (mine is the Axminster Hegner clone)
Cheers
Brian

She is doing OK thanks :) Paramedic and Hospital missed it until 4 days afterwards. She has had 4 stents and 2 balloons done 3 weeks ago on 2 arteries and goes back in 3 weeks to have the 3rd artery done.

I was self employed in IT but had to stop as she wasn't able to drive following it and care for her, the attack was the 30th March and the number of appointments etc. over the last 6 months have been numerous.

My scrolling has really helped out, not making loads at it, never planned to but helped buy basics, food etc.

Like your solution :)

Cheers,

Jon.

Well....

Dust extraction is now at MKIII and getting closer to being signed off :) Got a flexible 1\4" coolant pipe from fleabay for 99p. Added a bit of insulation tape to make it fit the 20mm conduit snugly. The previous versions worked fine... Until I had to cut some bigger stuff (About A3 size) when the job fouled on the top extraction.... Took inspiration from Martins solution and added a smaller intake as he advised :) I'm going to change the pipework around then weld it when I'm happy, then add the static wicks.

Broke a blade today.... Cue 10 minutes looking for the bottom blade clamp on slate! Fortunately I have a very powerful magnet on a stick for picking up spent shotgun cartridges which located it. It WILL be getting nail varnished tonight ;)

My quick release clamp and top retaining thumbscrew arrived today from Hegner (Excellent service BTW) got them fitted.
