I need to get a can of exterior varnish and was wondering if there are any disadvantages of going for a yacht varnish rather than just an exterior varnish, such as THIS. The reason I ask is because I vaguely remember reading somewhere a long time ago, that yacht varnish isn't always the best choice for exterior woodwork and I can't remember what the reason was.

After Dulux paints, Ronseal is my finish of choice, just love the stuff, water based, quick drying and does what it says on the tin! water down primer coat 50/50 if you stain or you can get smudges on overpainting the first coat. HTH.

Thanks for the help. I've just finished a tin of Ronseal satin varnish and found it very good. The reason I was asking about the yacht varnish was because it's quite considerably cheaper than the Ronseal in my local shop.
