Exterior finish for ash

The better half has had her eye on a bit of ash staked up in the wood store (her shed) which she would like to be made into a rustic garden bench, when I said about useing polyurethane on it the face that was pulled was not her most attractive look so could anyone recommend a diffrent finish to use that will be fairly weather resistant and keep she who must be pleased happy (if that is possible)

As ash is classed as a perishable hardwood I would think again about using it outside.

I thought that would be the case, bot it was worth a try.

On the up side it means I can get on with all the other jobs!
