Amazing, but I wonder why they didn't wait until it was dormant? It'd have been a lot lighter, and I'd have thought it'd have transplanted better.

Over here they'd just chop it down & set fire to it - pesky tree getting in the way of the road!!!

Given the cost of moving the tree, there must have been experts advising on the when/how. Instinctively (as earlier said) you'd think it better that the tree was moved in the winter whilst dormant. Also the remaining root ball seems small to support the tree with water/nutrients and to keep it upright in the wind. Any arborists out here able to comment?
