Hi
Today I picked up this drill from a fella off of gumtree for £40.
I've been looking for something like this for ages, something like this or a Fobco, startrite or meddings.
Hopefully it should be ok to replace my power devil bench top machine :D
What do you think of it.
It runs of a normal 240 plug and is single phase, can someone tell me the difference between single and 3 phase and why some are this and some are that, if you see what I mean.
If anyone a bit more savy about these sort of drill can give me some info about them, ie maintenance, cleaning etc it would be appreciatted. Also any idea how I would secure it in my shed to the floor seeing as it's only a wooden floor.
It's pretty stable as it is but I wouldn't want it to fall over, almost killed me, my missus and daughter trying to get it up to the top of the garden. I've lifted some heavy things, but this was a monster.

Regards

Chris m...."..

Who's a lucky boy!

Certainly +1 for securing it to the floor; that's a lot of metal sitting over a very small footprint. How you do it depends a bit on the state of your floor, but at the very least, some big coach screws through the base into the wood. Ideally, a nice little concrete pad, with ragbolts to hold the drill base, but anything would be better than instability.

Drill presses are pretty self-explanatory - clean and lubricate anything that moves and make sure the chuck doesn't have any runout. Beyond that, bearing replacement should be fairly straightforward, but if there is serious wear in the quill shaft, 'fraid you have a problem.
