My father has an old small 4 blade planner thicknesser he is passing on to me. It does not have a motor.

Does anyone know what speed motor I need and approx size. Single phase of course.

How long is a piece of string, what is the size of the planner block, gear sizing etc, a make and model may give us a clue?

Hello
If its the same as this machine?....

That is a two pole motor that spins at 2800 RPM, and is 1 KW.
I presume it is a TEFC as is mostly the norm for modern motors on WW machinery.
It is for this side of the pond as it is 50hz, rather than 60hz which is for the USA.

What I can't make out is what mounting the motor has for the machine, be it foot mounted, face or flange mounted.
That might be obvious to yourself if you can see a mounting plate.

What we can't see from the pic is what shaft diameter it has, nor the pulley.
If you dig around for a manual it might give a clue.
Apart from these things, I'm unsure if there is anything more to know what you need....
Although, I don't know if it requires a start and run capacitor or just a start, it looks to have a rather large terminal housing which encloses everything and may suggest so.

Other folks can advise as I am not knowledgable on the subject.

Tom
