I don't do the competition but seeing the subject this month reminded me of this one I did a few years ago. It's not an Easter egg but a dragon's egg. Due to hatch in 2217

I would echo Grahamshed's thoughts - that's wonderful. Creative and the outer vessel (in particular) must have taken some turning with that natural edge void in it. Thanks for sharing!

The trick with pieces like this where you know you are going to go through the side is to shape the outside to completion then wrap in cling film tape securely before doing the inside. Also make sure your tools for the inside are sharp and take your time. Too much pressure and you can blow the shell apart.

Pete

A great piece Pete the only thing is the stand for the egg I personally would have used the outer piece of burr to sit it on as it would makes it look more natural.

I still have to admire the way you can see something from a piece of wood that many would relegate to the bin or burner. I must get out more and find some pieces or have a chat to my local tree surgeon.

I wonder if seeing what something can become is a talent that can be learnt or something that is innate in just a few of us ? ( not me )
Can you remember the process Pete, did you see it as a whole or did you make the shell, then think you could put something inside, then an egg, then the dragon story ?
Many of the pieces you show here and on your website are equally fascinating.

Just in time for the Grand Gallery Opening then , presume it'll be Fire Water as sippers rather than Champs.

Visions of a large Dragon Weyr, decked out with an abundance of Rustic Turnings and an adjacent Hatching Ground with Dragon Song echoing around the peaks and valley below with Anne McCaffrey smiling down from on high having just materialized from "between" on her steed.

I was just sitting here thinking my education must have been sadly inadequate.
