I'm in the middle of making a new steam box and have been offer a couple of old earlex strippers as the steam generators. Does anyone know the INTERNAL DIAMETER of the hoses used on them. Just so I can get the right size piping and connectors etc? Will be using 2 of them as the box is 3m section of 110 soil pipe.

I don't know about that particular steamer, but mine had a screw connector which was an old pipe thread, maybe 1/4. I found some fittings to adapt it to a nylon pipe. Using plantpots as and plugs Mike Abbott style, the pipe poked nicely through one of the drain holes !

My pipe was 2m long, and the one steamer was fine, and the capacity just right for steaming a pair of legs. One thing I would say is watch out your drain pipe is well supported - it is only just up to the temperature and mine distorted quite a bit after a few runs. I've since found a 4" diameter aluminium pipe, which I just wrap in a blanket for insulation.

I would like to nominate Sheffield Tony for understatement of the year "mine distorted quite a bit after a few runs".

After 15 minutes my steambox looked like a Salvidor Dali painting. It deformed so much that the ends were veritcal and pointing at the ground that wood couldn't be put in. Basically don't use any of the plastic drrainpipes for this or you WILL know what it's like to have the worst bout of brewers droop there is.

will put up picks later
