Back in my workshop after loads of time not possible. Holidaze don't arf get in the way init??

I was going to make this for my sis-in-law, but she doesn't wear dangly earings. So I decided to make it anyway and it will go into our local wine producers' cave with some other bits I have there. The grain turned out really good and at one point I kept thinking there was a tool mark on the upper part, but it's the way the grain is running..

Well? It started out as one bit. An old oak TV cabinet to be precise.

The spindles have the grain running the length and turned between centres the 2 trays were turned first hot glued to a wood faced faceplate to turn the recess for my Axy K10 chuck then mounted on the chuck.

The 4 bits were finally mounted with the base on the chuck, the whole thing held in place with a conical live centre and all flaired in together. The earring holes were marked in using the indexing ring on the K10 and drilled with a 3mm drill bit, very carefully!

The finish is a Record friction polish and brings out the grain quite nicely I think.

Oh for a £ for every time we've chased those supposed tool marks or 'it can't be grain in that direction' that just won't go away.

The wood character is standing up for itself but should compliment and add sparkle to any ornamentation placed on it rather than just dumb the display down as you get with some bland darker woods.
