Hi,

I've finally found a decent DeWalt DW1150 planer at a fair price.

...guess what is missing... got the aluminium fence but I don't have the extrusion to clamp it to the planer top plate!

Any idea what I could use as a replacement? not fuss about the flimsy fence, but it will be nice if I can re-used the clamping base.

As anybody done something similar to their DW50/ DW1150 ?

Cheers,

I have that machine with fence, I can take photos if that would help.

Fitz,

The only piece of advice I can give is when you fabricate something up do you really need to have the fence to adjust for angle. I could probably count on one hand the times I've used this facility on my PT's over 35 years. Save yourself some time and aggro'. You'll also probably have a more rigid solution.

yeas I was only looking to do a 90° fixed fence.

Hi
I hope you don’t mind me asking but are they a good machine . I’m looking to
Buy a planer thicknesses second hand and was considering the freaky elektra backum or a kitty , any suggestions ?

I've looked online for ages and I've narrowed down to the DeWalt or the Kity 636; the key thing for me was the folded tables. I think for the 260 models; you have to remove the out feed table...
I haven't used mine yet as I need to "think" how to make a fence!!

It probably could be made out of hardwood with a Tslot in the centre, rebates on the upper sides and V grooves on the bottom - from the looks of it, could also be made wider to add a bit more wood bulk to the side areas.

Another possibility might be to have one sand casted with aluminium using an original as a mould - there's quite a few people on YT doing it, you might be able to reach out and see if one of them would be interested.

Also 3d printed, but would need a scan of an original - there are companies that can do this.

We've also got guys on the forum with metalworking lathes that might find this an interesting challenge? Could post a query there too?

silly little things but how do you remove the plastic cover? there are 2 screws at the top and another one for the swinging side cover then what? ...I don't want to force as it's all flimsy plastic! 😬

Have you considered a trip to your local industrial estate in search of an aluminium window manufacturer. They could have some profiles suitable for altering.
