I've just bought my wife a digital camcorder but we are very disappointed
with the quality of the picture. I have tried manual focus and auto focus but on a full screen viewing it is quite blurred. As the camera is second hand(Samsung VP-D323) I am unsure of what to expect. I did have a cine camera about thirty years ago ant that was better than this one. Any tips, comments, advice will be welcome.

Just did a search on your samsung, and actually ist a really good machine, so i wouldn't know why it isn't focusing.

Try a few settings within the menu, play arround with it, or there should also be a menu option to reset to factory settings, try that!!!

It hasn't been stored somewhere damp has it?

This can lead to condensation forming between the lenses, which can lead to things looking a little blury.

Try leaving it in a warm, dry place for a few days (not hot - you don't want to cook it!!) - an airing cupboard would be ideal.

Hope that you get it sorted out.

After playing with every possible setting I decided to try a direct showing on the t.v. No problem. It must be the computer that is causing the problem. Thanks for the replies

Roger, Codecs? please expand, surely I'm not the only one without a clue as to what you mean

Sorry..

Codec...generic name for COders and DECoders. They are software modules that convert/compress the video and/or audio between camera, your computer and your screen. All digital AV stuff is compressed to some extent or another. It's a compromise between subjective picture quality and file size.

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/9series/codecs.aspx

probably tells you more than you'd want to know!

You might like to try some of the other forums that specialise in AV stuff (www.avforums.co.uk IIRC).

What size screen are you trying to display your camera on?
