Today I resurected a nice set of tongue and groove planes from Ary den Hengt, planemaker in Rotterdam in the 18th century. They are wonderfull, very easy to use, and still in great shape. I put more pictures and info on my blog. Rotterdam is the city I have been working now for some 23 years, so it feels homely. The city was bombarded in teh war and nothing is left of the street where Ary was pursuing his business. You can see more pictures and info on my blog. http://seekelot.blogspot.nl/2013/03/ary-den-hengst.html

Nice planes! Why those holes on the right side of grooving plane? For an additional fence?

Ciao

I was wondering about that too. But on close inspection, these are just the nail holes for attaching the skate in its groove. It's always funny to see, despite the adornments on Dutch planes, they are very utilitarian in the technical details.

I like those.

I have a couple of Dutch planes - including a groover which happens to match a different tonguing plane - and I really appreciate that little curved scoop out of the top edge. Very comfortable in use.
