Hi all

I have been reading some of the posts on here re dust extracters and now I am more than a little confused.
I have a Jet t/s and a metabo thick/planner which I now need to hook up to an extractor and had been considering the Charnwood 1hp unit (got a £200 budget).
Would this be a reasonable unit to buy, and would it cope with MDF dust?
All input very gratefully received

steve

If it is fitted with a standard 'cloth' filter bag, then no it will not be safe with MDF, event quite thick 'felt' Filter Bags can still distribute a visible fine dust layer around the shop.

Filtration for the dust needs to be below 0.5micron, further to the dust hazard you need to consider how much MDF you are going to process in the shop and what level of air changes you are achieving, most MDF products use urea-formaldehyde in the manufacture and exposure to high levels of released formaldehyde should be avoided.
