Whilst sanding away this morning it occurred to me that someone might be interested in my efforts to remove as much fine dust and shavings as possible from the busy end.

I am more than pleased with this initial quick and dirty trial set-up and see no need to refine it. It is made from 10mm ply and thin acrylic sheet a few screws and duct tape.

It is fitted on an Axminster 'Perform' lathe and the method should also be good for some of their own brand units like the 900. Other lathes with similar motor positions could be so fitted.

The 'collector Box' for want of a better description locates on the motor cooling cowl and rests on a wooden block clamped to the lathe bed.

The 100mm hose 'screws' into the bottom hole using the wire insert.

The dividing partition between the dust collection bay and the motor cooling grill prevents 99% of wood chippings and dust from passing through motor grill.

When the headstock is turned for increased swing the back of the box is supported with a piece of wood clamped to the bed if the cowl is needed.

Great setup. :) I just need to work out how I can fit it to a nova 3000.

Cheers Donald
