Hi all, my first post

I'm a 40 year keen diy'er and have recently moved to a new house and for the first time in my life I have a proper workshop (well it's a double garage) so I can now build a proper workbench and have all my power tools quickly to hand.

The problem I'm having is keeping the sawdust in check. I purchased a cheap Wet/Dry vac from Wickes (£40) and this does an OK job but now my Mitre Saw and Table Saw have fixed homes I would like to upgrade to something a bit more consistent.

I'm not looking for super find collection, health is not my main concern it's cleanliness (I know that sounds wrong but I'd cut MDF outside when necessary). The mitre saw (DeWalt Sliding Mitre) and table Saw (DeWalt DWE7491) both have dust collection ports but I'm struggling to find something that is good for both.

I've been looking at making up something that will work with the Wickes Vac I'm using now, with a combination of 32mm plastic waste pipe and 32mm corrugated pipe. The system will be free as I have most of the parts already but my concern is that it will either get blocked a lot or won't be powerful enough (or both).

The biggest problem is the table saw has both a DC port on the bottom and one on the top on the blade guard and to maximise the collection I want to use both. The pipes need to run up from the top port and out the back for the large port.

Also, I need a way to isolate tools when not in use as it will lose lots of suction.

I've been looking around the Charnwood website and for around £200 I can buy a system that seems to do what I want but with much bigger 100mm pipes instead.

So my questions are:

Do you think the plumbing pipe setup would work?
Is it worth investing in a new system with the correct pipe sizes?
Are Charnwood any good?
Is a budget of £200 unrealistic?

I look forward to some suggestions and ideas.

Cheap dust extraction is for cheap lungs .

For £200 !!!! I would be on ebay looking for a blower with a dual voltage motor 3 ,4 or 5 hp .

Good luck

I don't think a mitre saw or table saw will clog up a wet and dry vac, as they both produce sawdust as opposed to chippings.

A decent dust collection system isn't cheap and requires a lot of work and space to setup. If it's only those 2 items you're interested in, I'd stick with the vac. You could also invest in a bigger vac with power take off for convenience. Did your tablesaw not come with a Y-Hose?

As for isolation, you could fashion your on blast gates, or just have 2 vacs if you have space.

Thanks for the replies, no the saw did not come with a Y hose. After posting this I found another post where carpenteire2009 was trying to achieve a very similar thing (inexpensive-extractor-for-my-dewalt-745-table-saw-t100778.html). So based on his idea I adapted it and the result at this early stage seem positive.

What I did was create two different setups for the table and mitre saws and then I just need to move the hoover pipe to whichever saw I'm using.

I don't have permission to include a link to the pictures I took.
