What's the most durable finish?
Its in the nature of a ladies wrist bangle that the exterior is in contact with a variety of hard surfaces for a lot of the time
I have tried melamine but it shows scratches quickly. Didn't try oil.

I imagine polished wax finishes will mark badly. Rustins 2 part will be stronger but will look plasticky.
Maybe take a leaf out of the pen turners book and use CA?
 
CA/BLO will work but can be tricky to apply a large circumference.

I'd try the woodoc range its polyurethane based and I’ve found it to be very durable
 
+1 for Rustins Plastic Coating - bullet proof and very easy to apply with a brush, although only mix as much as you need.

Also +1 for matting with wire wool.

Did you leave the melamine to harden? The pre-catalysed lacquers take time to thoroughly harden and this can take up to a week to 10 days depending upon temperature and humidity.

I'd go for two coats of a hardwax oil - then polish up to a gloss on a buffing wheel. It won't chip or crack, and can be easily refreshed with another coat if required. It won't stop the wood underneath from getting scratches, though.
