Hi, I am about to make timber driveway gates 1.8m high and need some advice. The gap is approx 3.8m but I want one gate 1.1m and the other 2.5m
Is it acceptable to make the 2.5m gate with 3 long rails ,diagonal supports, 3 heavy duty tee hinges and a support wheel ?
I does seem a long gate and Im not sure if above would suffice. The reason for 1 short gate is that this would be used regulary to enter back yard where as the longer one would only be occasionally used when required.I dont want a 3rd post between gates as I need full opening to allow my vehicle access.
What do you reckon ?

I guess farm gates are often wider than that so I dont see why it wont work. wide gates have braces going both ways and bolted at each intersection.

Hello GR8GUY, I remembered an episode on The Woodwright's Shop a few years back, on building a wooden field gate, it can be found on the web. Try Bing, or Google, for the woodwright shop episodes, even if it isn't what you want it may give some ideas. Jamey
