Hi guys!

I have been browsing through the B&Q website for the past couple of days and I keep getting pulled back to the offer on the following drill:

http://www.diy.com/nav/fix/power-to...Drill-Driver-Li-14-4V-12317532?skuId=12838238

It seems like a bit of a bargain at £49.99, especially as it comes with a li ion battery!

Im not sure if it is any good however I am tempted by it (just dont want to waste £50)

They also have a B&D one on offer for £69.99 which looks almost identical to this:

http://www.diy.com/nav/fix/power-tools/ ... l-12327502

the B&D is 18V and again li ion!

And to add more to my confusion there is the JCB drill on offer at £84.99

http://www.diy.com/nav/fix/power-tools/ ... l-12157537

This has two batterys and has a 5 year warranty, again it is li ion and it is 20V!!!

I would like to get a drill, however I am not sure what to get! Are these ones just a waste of time/money?

Thanks for looking!

My dad bought one of these for work a few weeks ago, I think it is ok, however I don't think it is quite as good value as the jcb one quality wise!

They do a good offer of two of them for £125 on the b&q trade card! They are great value then!

It depends on what you want to use the drill for. For light drilling and screwing in I imagine the 14V is fine. Personally I'd like more power, but then I use it professionally all the time, so I prefer my old Bosch 24V one! Having said that it is giving up the ghost (after 10 years) so I need to start looking.....

You need to be looking at the torque ratings and maximum drilling capacity.

Bosch Green range is DIY stuff. If that is what you want it for then should be ok, but do look around as you may well find it cheaper elsewhere.

Bosch Blue range is their trade gear and built to a different quality level to cope with trade work.

New question for everyone... The jcb drill or this ryobi:

http://www.diy.com/nav/fix/power-tools/ ... s-12408577

They are on offer as of tomorrow with 15% off so they are effectively the same price!

The ryobi seems to be more aimed at the trade but I could just be wrong!

Am I right in thinking that the ryobi will be better?

Neither I think. Found myself in a B & Q this evening and the Hitachi mentioned above (from Screwfix) was £99 with 2 batts and also a DeWalt (altho Ni-Cad) for £99 and the Ni-Cad Makita too. If I needed or wanted one I'd go with the Hitachi. Batts are 1.5Ah (as all the cheaper drills seem to be) but for the price..............

I had the Hitachi about 18 months ago when it was £89 - great tool. My friend just bought a Bosch Li ion impact driver, and after cutting his We don't stock them.hand quite badly opening the tin (he's a G.P.) , took it back because it was incomplete. He was told that the clutch was purchased seperately. He argued that this was wrong, as every poster they had showed it as one item, but eventually accepted he had to buy it. "Sorry, sir, we don't stock them." he was told.

Phil

Eh? The clutch is purchased seperately. Its late, but this still won't make any sense in the morning. Thats like buying a car and being told the clutch is purchased seperately. Or am I missing something?

Somebody..........

Neil

If I bought an impact driver, then cut my hand on the tin, then found out it didn't come with a clutch, I'd take it back too, even if I was a GP and it wasn't in stock..... I think.

Neil - it made little sense to me as well. He pointed out that the tool was as good as useless without it, and they gave him a refund. I only use the store out of desperation, so I don't know if the offer is still on or if the posters are still up.
