Has anyone experience of downloading a Magazine on line as against Buying a hard copy?
I am considering a subscription to Popular Woodworking.

Things to consider are
Can you keep a copy locally of all issues you have subscribed to
Can you print pages out easily
Can you still access issues from the years when you were a subscriber once your subscription has lapsed.

These are all things you can do with a printed copy subscription but quite often you cant do some or any with an online subscription.

Popular Woodworking operates its digital service via a third party called Zinio. They're not the best, in particular you're limited to printing individual pages rather than printing off a full article from pages X through to Y, and downloading isn't permitted. I believe that if you finish your subscription your purchased magazines remain accessible, but I don't know what happens if Zinio themselves go under?

Fine Woodworking seem to have a better digital model, at least as far as printing and downloads are concerned, their search facility seems better too, but they have hard locked video advertising which can get a bit intrusive.

Have a look at your local library, many have digital copies of mags that you can read online - I'm not saying Popular Woodworking is there but its worth a look

I get digitise downloads of good woodworking as well as the paper version. They're ok and nice to have available but I do prefer a hard copy.

I get Anthony Bailey's Woodworking Crafts magazine and The Woodworker on digital sub on kindle. I quite like it as I can read them on either my phone, kindle or if i wish use my tablet pc if i need to see the pics/plans etc more clearly and print them off on either the printer or the plotter in the workshop. Was considering getting popular woodworking on digital sub as it is very hit and miss as to it appearing in my local wh smiths
