Hi All

Existing: Single 800mm (Ish) sliding door (homemade) on stud wall.
Desired: replace above with 2 off 1981x762mm bifold doors (Jeld-wen 60quid) in new frame in existing stud wall.

Question 1: can anyone recommend a good magnetic latch that will 'hold' the two doors together when closed, or even will that work or be necessary?

Question 2: Door specs say fits door opening of 1981x762mm, So will the frame I need to create be 2x 762mm wide? plus maybe 5mm for adjustment/luck? I'm assuming yes, but maybe I've forgotten something.

Cheers in advance

Are you meaning 1 door hinged off another to form a pair that will both park to one side rather than opening as a conventional pair of French doors?

The difficulty is that if you want them both the same width, then the hinges need to be on different sides. Which is ok but then if you want to have a single leaf operating on its own then you cant have any stop bead where that door is as the single master leaf will hinge into the liner.

The easiest way is to have a shoot bolt to fix the slave door and a latch on the master. You could have a strong magnetic catch on the slave door to hold it in place I suppose.

Just put a roller catch in the top of each one. Should give a pleasing click as they both close. I originally thought you meant sliding door gear.

One door each side, meeting in the middle when closed.

Ah, a set of French doors.

The conventional method is to use a rebated door lock, either mortice lock or just latch with the rebate add-on

And a flush shoot bolt for the slave door

The rebate is 13mm wide and you need to deduct 13mm from the frame / liner width
