door timber

I am considering making a new door for our house. It would get a fair battering from the elements so I wonder if anybody has any gen on which timber(s)would be best?

not balsa - doesn't machine too well

I think Meranti is used a lot for doors and frames. Cheapish, machines really easily and to a nice finish

meranti is fairly soft.

but does machine nicely.

sapele is good, gaurea is nice too.
