Another thread Pinch pots has set me off on a mission to finally make myself a donut chuck.
So before I google myself to sleep are there any ‘best practice’ designs anyone wants to share?
This article seems a good starting point:

Do you have Cole Jaws, if so you have 80% of the fixtures already.

I just connect a Ply or MDF disc to the Cole jaws with studding, gives you a wide range of diameters and fixing options especially if like Derek you want to hold something other than a round bowl.

I do have Cole jaws and never thought of making a mod to ‘donut’ them!
Clever clogs. I’ll have go !

A spare faceplete is another way to make the chuck as I did in the post you linked to but mine was one that fitted into my chuck jaws, Axminster sell them for their chucks as well as Robert Sorby for theirs. I find this way quick and easy to install and remove.
The one that I showed in my other post HERE is only a small one and I plan to make a larger one sometime in the future. The backplate has a large hole in it so I can mount a jam type piece for doing natural edged bowls making it easier to remove the foot etc
