hi, I've just bought a 12" floor standing disc sander, which I am refurbishing. should I carry on with the adhesive backed discs or move on to hook and loop?

Depends what you're sanding. I converted my 6'' to hook & loop and never looked back. However, you do 'slightly' lose the flatness of the disc due to the sponginess of the velcro.

I think adhesive-backed is better for a fixed machine like this, gives you a good firm surface to sand against which helps prevent dubbed edges.

The last adhesive discs I bought were on some kind of plastic backing and came off very easy compared to the paper ones. Worth looking out for if you can find them.
