Hi,

I fitted a Wixey WR510 to my Scheppach HMS260 planer/thicknesser at home: http://www.wixey.com/planer/index.html it needed a bit of adaption to fit as it is designed for portable thicknessers.

Subsequently they brought out the remote readout version which I installed on the Axminster AW106 machine I use at the Comet workshop: http://www.wixey.com/remote-planer/index.html

Both are very useful, somehow I actually prefer the setup on the Scheppach because the setup/calibration is simpler. A company called Machine DRO stock them in the UK http://www.machine-dro.co.uk

I wouldn't want to be without mine now. I usually find myself machining quite a range of sections for a particular job (mainly aircraft wood rather than furniture these days) and they transform the speed at which you can get exactly the size you want and it's great just being able to dial in the thickness you need and get accuracy to a few thou.

regards,

Colin

Thanks very much Colin, I will check them out
What actually is involved in fitting one to a machine?

Hi Colin I too would be interested in some pics of how you fitted it as I am looking to do the same.

I'm very much interested in this topic as from day one I have wanted a digital read out but wasn't sure if it was going to be a mare fitting one to a Startrite 310 SDX

Thanks WoodShavings.... I see you are in Alton, I'm just down the road from you in Farnham..

I've got a wixey one on my startrite SD320 and it was easy to fit. I can take some photos tomorrow if you'd like. There was also an article in one of the ww mags not that long ago on fitting one - I'll see if I can find it.

I only have these pics of it fitted. The sensor is fixed on the out feed side, held by self tapping screws in the case. The readout is mounted convenient for reading by the adjustment handle.

Stormer - you are welcome to come over to have look, PM me.

That's virtually identical to the setup I have. I'll try and get some shots of the original one on the Scheppach over the weekrnd.
