I purchased a new set of chisels this week and have now come to the need to sharpen. The weather down here in Devon today at 10.30 am is around 5 centigrade in my workshop so I brought my sharpening gear into the kitchen

Firstly I found that the rubber routering mat proved useful on kitchen tops it stopped the slipping, so will use the mat again in workshop when needed

Secondly I was concerned with such a lot of sharpening to do my Eclipse honing guide would start to wear of the diamonds  or wear off the running wheel of the guide. Therefore I laid a bit of poly bag on the stones to take up the wear where the wheel of the guide rubbed. It worked.

Thirdly I found a good place to store my diamond cards, in the chisel box, there is just enough room.

Photographs attached if interested.

Are the backs rounded from Kirschen's famous polishing?

BugBear

Must admit I am suspicious about the backsides.

Will most probably lap the backs because it worked a treat last year on my 45 year old chisels.
