Can anybody out there give me some advice on dial gauges? I have been looking at various types, some meteric, some imperial. Reading my table saw books, they recomend a tolerance of 1/1000 of an inch for arbour run out, but what is that in meteric?
Cheers guys,
Dicky

Google comes up with this

25.4 µm — 1/1000th inch, commonly referred to as 1 mil in the US and 1 thou in the UK

Hope it helps

its about 0.0254mm, most gauges will have metric divisions of 0.01mm.

You could get a digital one which will give the results in both but it's nor really worth the cost, you can pick up a dial one & magnetic holder for about £25.00.

No problem, just remember that the magnetic base is only any good if you have cast iron tables :!:
