Design using stacked applied frets?

I know that applied frets are quite common as decorative treatments, and (further) that in many instances (most commonly fire surrounds) applied moulding pieces are stacked to gain relief.

I don't think I've ever seen stacked frets used this way, although it seems a reasonable notion, so I assume I just haven't looked in the right place.

Can someone point at a design/pattern/book/example?

I haven't seen such a book either. Most scrollers simply take a design from a normal pattern book, although not necessarily one related to woodwork - my favourite is a glass painter's motif book. It's not that uncommon for scrollers to stack cut fretwork in this way to use as 'gingerbread' - I did so myself when I made my Genuine Antique Tudor Pine Coffee Table :-# .
