I built this before properly taking up woodworking, so it's easy enough to do. All you need is a drill, a jigsaw, and a straightedge (a long spirit level works well). And some space to work in, of course. If you can bear with me I'll knock up some sketches later to show how it fits together.

Yeah that's the idea, what wood are you using? How did you do the joins? How sturdy is the unit with all those records?

what wood are you using?
18mm or 3/4" plywood. The edge of plywood isn't that pretty, so you can cover that with a glued-on banding if it bothers you (I didn't, it looked ok once painted). I've also used MDF in the past, which looks a little better but I hate working with it.

How did you do the joins?
The outside is just screwed together. The shelves and dividers slot together, a bit like a deep cross-halving joint (I'll try to do a sketch if you don't understand what I mean). There is a 12mm sheet of ply screwed to the back.

How sturdy is the unit with all those records?
Rock solid. The way it slots together and with the back screwed on make it solid. Without the back it wouldn't be so sturdy.

on a bit of a tangent, nice speakers you have there DTR, B&W 602 S2's if I see what I think I see :D
I love the B&W speaker range, beautiful sound for not silly money....
(well unless you look at the nautilus range  )

Well spotted 8)

It's a shame the setup doesn't do them justice. They're in the loft conversion, and the trapezoidal shape of the room (no dormers) has some strange acoustics. And as you can probably see they are too close to the walls due to the lack of space. I have to draw the line somewhere though, the pursuit of perfect sound is a slippery slope indeed....
