I went to the show yesterday and was surprised:

A full on Festool Domino XL - I want one of these but at ............approx £920 gulp!

The show was smaller than previous years with fewer stalls and in many cases smaller ranges.

The biggest surprise was the very very low turnout of visitors to a free show! I was there for 4 hours and I guess there were only twice as many folks attending in ratio to folks serving/presenting. I know the economy is struggling but where is everyone.......? :?

At this rate and cost (borne by D&M and vendors?) I would not be surprised if there is no show on for next year with such a lousy turnout.

Views?

Isn't this show usually in November ? ... I was thinking it must be coming up soon.

Also, D&M have previously sent a reminder leaflet in the post -- but I guess I haven't bought anything from them for a while.

I was only there for an hour on Friday but thought there were as many vendors as usual? As for folks visiting I thought I would go on a friday to avoid the crowds - only to find it was packed out, at least during the time I was there!

I went today seemed the same as usual to me but festool there this year. Bosch have a new jigsaw out that I didn't know about looks really good tested it out feels really good and has led lights, I've got four now so better not buy anymore lol.

I saw the new domino xl yesterday as I went to a festool morning at bunnys bolts. They demo'd the domino , syslite and new impact driver. Had a go on the xl , I used the largest cutter but it was as smooth as anything you would never know it was making such a huge hole. Tea coffee and hot dogs for everyone and I went home with a nice free festool tape measure :D .

Went Saturday and met up with Paul C for a cuppa and a natter, good to catch up after I didn't make Yandles, Westonbirt or Cressing

Seemed a little bit smaller than previous years but might have imagined that. Same as last year was the Metabo stand with lots on display but little stock to actually buy at the show  , and the Bosch stand with very few if any good deals on anything I was interested in, for example, the blades for the Allrounder (Fein knock off) were around twice the price you can get them from Argos, so stocked up mail order from Argos when I got home, all Bosch originals and a fraction of the Bosch price 8) . Their single speed mains rotary drill (ideal for sanding on the lathe) was also around £20 more than the Metabo equivalent, but Metabo didn't have any with them, again  , so came home and ordered a Makita elsewhere on the internet !

Good to handle and try stuff at the show, but seems to me you can often get better pricing elsewhere, or get the same deals on D&M website, without bothering with the show.

Gave up at the Dewalt van after standing around for a good few minutes trying to get some attention from a disinterested "sales" guy, and took my wallet elsewhere

Treated myself to a solid DMT fine diamond plate at a tenner off normal pricing and wished I had got an extra fine also when I got home, watch this space for offloading of some waterstones and other bits and pieces :D

Strangely, didn't give in and buy anything at the Bessey or Trend stands, was looking to spend some cash but didn't really seem tempted while there. Likewise the Brimarc stand didn't have the Veritas round mini-tenon cutters, but they are a bit specialist to be fair. Didn't notice Freud there which was a shame as they often have decent deals on saw blades and router cutter sets.

So, nice to get out and meet up with mates and try a few things, and good as it's free and only 40 minutes away, I enjoyed it, although left feeling somewhat less sure of the point of shows generally, given lack of show offers, limited availability of stock etc, :?

Cheers, Paul

I always go as it's not far from where I live. Nice to meet up with paulm, Andy King and Derek Jones of F&C. Bought a couple of Record Power sash cramps (same as the Irwin Record ones but a nicer colour and less expensive :) ).

Looked at the Stanley Sweetheart socket chisels which felt very nice in the hand but the backs were very un-flat and the bevels were a bit chunky - disappointing because they were going for half-price (perhaps that's why :-k ).

Overall a good show with some good deals - but it depends what you were wanting to buy.

Cheers

Good to hear you met up with Derek J and Paulm. I wonder if the low turnout was anything to do with the CT show that was only held a week or so previously? Different sort of show obviousley, but maybe too close together? :duno: - Rob

I didn't think the turn-out was low. Seemed busy to me.

Cheers

Paul was Andy King working at the show ? I ask because when I tried out the Bosch jigsaw the guy who showed it to me looked like Andy King I knew he looked familiar but it didn't click until later.

Yep, I was (there's only one person who could look like me, surely? )
I've had the jigsaw in for review for a while and been very impressed by it so Bosch asked me if I would help demo it for them.

Cheers,
Andy

Hi Andy yeah I kept thinking where do I know you from :D I was the guy who told you I had been given the 150 jigsaw by Bosch last year to test out and keep to add to my 3 other Bosch jigsaws :D I might end up selling the lot and getting that new 140 looks very nice, I like the LED's very handy.
