I have to cut 2 tiles, straight cuts, but I no longer have a tile cutter.

Does anyone ave any ideas how I can do this? Would scoring with a triangular file then snapping work? Would using my SCMS knacker the blade?

They are wall tiles rather than floor tiles, but I have only 2 spares, so I don't want to be experimenting too much.

What are the wall tiles made of Steve?........This may sound like a stupid question, but nowadays tiles are made of various types of material.

Normal ceramic wall tiles usually have a cream coloured body.
Others may have a terracotta coloured body.
These are generally softer in their makeup and therefore easier to cut. A decent straight edge and something to score a line on the tile, then rest one side of the tile on the edge of a bench with the score line above the edge, hold the tile firmly and push down on the other side and it should snap clean off.

If the tiles are porcelain, they are generally heavier and far harder to cut. I wouldn't use the method described above on these. You could get a diamond tile cutting disc to fit a 4" angle grinder and it will cut pretty much any tile, but it depends on how clean you will need the finished cut edge.

Tim.

They are terracotta. A bin end pack from B&Q. Not a very good colour match for the worktop but as it's for r and not the kitchen, I'm not that bothered. They were cheap and that's the main thing!.

I think I'm going to try the scoring along a straight edge and snapping, using an AG disc, but just by hand, not in the machine. AGs are rather too unwieldy for my liking..

Thanks for the ideas, chaps, much appreciated.

Sorry Roger, I think I was typing my answer about the same time as you were.

I have in the past used a normal glass cutter to score the tile and snapped it with a couple of matchsticks under the tile on the part to be kept and then clean up the edge with a nice big dreadnought file. gives a reasonable edge
