Ok I have just about got my new business workshop set up with machinery.
I managed to get my hand on a rather old Wadkin PKA 3 Phase machine. I was looking for more of a worker than a looker. The fence has been made up from a piece of 4 x 2 but I am ok with this as it seems pretty solid and is at 90 degrees to the bench top.

The thing that was missing was the crown guard which look like it has got lost through the times because a large power roller was fitted to the machine.

So now for obvious safety reasons I am looking to source a new riving knife (due to someone else taking chunks out of it) and a much needed crown guard. Do any of you guys know a good way of making one of these or where to source one from that isn't going to cost a BOMB?

I have worked in joinery shops that have had crown guards made from ply so hopefully that may be an option.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That looks like the beast. You have done a good job on the refurbished Wadkin looks fantastic.
So it looks like a different riving knife was put in mine that will accommodate a crown guard? Im not fussed about having the original arm.

Cheers

Maybe it's cowardice, but I wouldn't feel happy with a plywood crown guard.
Something like the one shown would not be a difficult fabrication job out of 2mm steel sheet, either Mig-welded along the joins, or with small tabs on one piece riveted to its neighbour. Add a couple of thicker bits of steel to fill the gap between the cheeks of the guard and the extended riving knife, bolt through the whole assembly, and you are there.
Obviously a much smaller machine, but that's exactly how the guard on my Lurem was made.

I found a crown guard that will fit today from Wadkin parts specialist called AMS who run out of Wadkin's old building in Green Lane, Leicester. Its not the crown guard on an arm but sure will give me some protection from the T-REX :)

It cost me mind but rather have the safety....
