I am hoping to build a shed in the new year and I am not sure how to finish the roof off. So far I have 6"x2" rafters spaced at 400mm with 18mm OSB 3 on top that I plan on laying felt onto. What I'm not sure of is how to finish the edges and the eaves of the roof itself.

The detailing will be determined by how you want to finish the felt. Felt roofing done by a professional always looks really neat on house flat roofs but I dont know how that can be applied to a shed roof

At the most basic level, sheds have the felt dressed over the ends and a barge board nailed over. At the gutter the felt runs over a timber batten of some sort to form an overhang for the felt to act as a drip into the gutter.

I am building shed soon but am thinking of using EPDM rubber roofing. There are quite neat trims which finish the roofing at the gutter and sides.

Is this what you mean?

Also...

Is a gutter essential on the lowest side of the roof or can I leave it out to reduce costs?

EDIT:

Just had a look at EPDM roof kits. Does this seem reasonable for a 4m x 3m roof?

A gutter isnt essential, but the felt will need to form a drip whether there is a gutter or not. The proper method is a welted drip. Without a gutter try to aim for a decent overhang of the roof.

Rubber4roofs seems to be one of the main online suppliers of epdm so should be a good price. They have an ebay shop and sell seconds which are a bit cheaper.

2 degrees is almost a flat roof, you might be best creating an upstand at the verges so stop water run off.

Have a look here for some really useful stuff about laying felt roofs. I followed this to the letter when I re-did my garage roof over 10 years ago - and it's still going strong.
FWIW unless your shed roof is quite small I would think leaving off the guttering is likely to be false economy - only my opinion - if you make the drips as shown in the link you can always add them later.

Why have you brightly painted those timbers only to clad over them anyway :?:  :p :-"

Have you thought about using polyroof or similar? This is great for flat roofs and really lasts a very long time, It may be a bit more expensive compared to mineral felt, you can buy all profiles needed but can also form your own in timber. My opinion is it makes a far superior roof in the long term.
