There is a wealth of experience on this website, and potential manufacturing equipment at home.

There are Pizza shops using ovens and 3D printers making full face masks.

Anything is better than nothing.
Any ideas?
Imagine just 5,000 pieces of PPE being delivered to 'one' Hospital. Times 'x'.

Although the intention is appreciated, please remember we have to use PPE that is approved for our use. We have had lots of donations of things people have made that we just cannot use and have to discard. All our PPE must meet local / national guidelines for protection, and reusable items must be able to withstand the decontamination we have to follow. Before starting on a task like this decide on the trust to be donated to and discuss with them that the items you are proposing meet the specifications and testing we require, to avoid wasted effort.

The most useful things we have had donated, I'm only talking from the perspective of the Ambulance station I work at, are wash bags people have made so we can put uniform straight in them and then dump the whole lot in the washing machine. But the bags have to withstand a 60 degree wash.

The support the public is giving is much appreciated by us all, but I do not want people to waste effort or materials.

Absolutely this, my wife is making stuff to the design requirements sent by the hospice and care facility.

I offered 100 P3 face masks and 1000 disposable gloves gloves to local hospital followed by our doctors surgery, but neither were able to take them, which is frustrating but fully understandable. The local volunteers who are visiting and helping out the elderly were happy to have them, all these groups are doing amazing work for us so need our support in anyway we can.

Great idea Flynnwood and hopefully you can find a way to help.

Cheers Peter

FFP3 masks have to be fit tested, which takes at least 10 minutes per person, assuming they pass all test on 1st attempt. I would assume that if the masks were a different model/brand they would need to be fit tested separately to the normal issue. So for a 100 masks it may have not been worth the time.

Still a generous offer though =D>

Sorry but what is the relevance of this in regard to PPE?

Four weeks ago, this Doctor's wife started making masks. I emailed a UK manufacturer about fibreglass particles in HEPA filters. No response.

One of my short course students has been in touch, he along with a few friends are making protective face masks for his local hospital which have been approved to be used.

We are supplying him and the group with a few Swann Morton scalpels and blades as they form part of the making process.

Flynnwood is this what you had in mind? If so please PM me your details and I will pass them onto Marc, he can then pass you the design details and specification. If others are happy to help would you be able to liaise with the Forum?

Cheers Peter

I have been part of Keep Them Safe (South Hampshire) https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/keep-them-safe-south-hampshire.

We use 3D printers and laser cutters to provide face masks for non-frontline workers. We supply places like chemists, care homes etc who are only too gratefull for any added protection. Many are commercial and more than willing to pay if they could but cannot find anything for love nor money.
I am sure there is a simialr group/need in your area. We have made contact with our local NHS officer who looks after all non-hospital staff and she has pointed many who need the masks our way.

A Mum (retired nurse) has spent the past week making scrubs for the NHS. They came out really well!

He spoke of his "frustration" and "disbelief", adding: "I've heard heartbreaking stories, with [NHS staff] in tears."
After setting up a Facebook page publicising his efforts, Mr Dodd said he was contacted individually by a surgeon, who asked for 75 visors.
The surgeon said he was not prepared to go to work without them, and later emailed to thank him, saying he had carried out a "cardiac procedure" and saved a woman's life, Mr Dodd explained.

After schools were told to close last month, the design and technology department (D&T) at Queens' were asked by head teacher Jonathan Morrell if they could make equipment to support key workers.

The head of the department, Sue Taplin, set to work with two other teachers, Sarah Forrester and Nichola O’Brian, to make face visors.

The department technician, Martin Lewis, took home the school's 3D printer and has been working day and night to make the shields, after a prototype was created by teacher Matt Padgham.

Staff at Northwick Park Hospital in Harrow are wearing the PPE

Mr Lewis said he had to collect another printer to speed up production and the department is working together to make orders and keep stock in.

The shields take two hours and 45 minutes to make and staff have been using bio-plastic to make sure the equipment has minimum impact on the environment.

Pete and Kristina Davis, who live on site, have been tasked with sending the equipment out.

Hedi Thomas, a teacher in the D&T department, said: "We now have our two 3D printers working flat-out and we can hardly keep up with the orders.

So far, the first order was sent to Northwick Park Hospital and to a variety of people and places including maternity wards, chemists, physiotherapy wards, ICU wards, paramedics, youth workers and district nurses.

Mrs Forrester has now received material and specifications to be able to make scrubs from home.

If you can help supply Queens' with PLA filament, PVC sheets, elastic and sheets of plastic (Polypropylene), so they can continue creating the PPE, please email [email protected]

I can't remember who but someone locally is making face shields using acetate sheet donated by the local council and pallet banding melted together with a soldering iron to make the bit that rests it on the head.

75,000 visors have been made for NHS staff and well received by many photo's on the front line. They are grateful for anything. Care homes will need more. The people at the NHS front line couldn't give a **** about regs because "Anything is better than Nothing", my words. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-52411459 Dr Deborah Braham. It took a month to make it onto the BBC.
