Hi folks. Happy New Year to y'all.

Amongst the various Christmas jumpers and chocolates in my Christmas stocking this year was a carved male bust in ebony. Looks to be African.
I've been wondering what a lump of ebony like this would cost if bought over here. It weighs 11kg (24lb), and is carved out of a piece approx 2ft tall by 8"x8".
Any one have a clue?

In one catalogue I looked in ebony logs were £5 per kilo. I don't know if that would include your size but there would be a fair bit of waste i would imagine.

A piece of kiln dried ebony of the size you mention (not the weight necessarily) would easily cost around £150-£200 based on my most recent ebony purchase.

Ebony is darned difficult to dry in such a size without shakes, quite apart from its inherent rarity.

Thanks for that.
I suspected it was fairly expensive. The wood is in excellent condition, very beautiful and extremely hard!
