Yes, going well. We meet Mons, Tues, Weds, and Thursdays. They are turning nights, the club meet is the last Friday of the month. Just up the road from you - Wheal Jane. I live in Carharrack - a few miles up the road - I'll PM you my phone no. - give me a call.
Phil

I'm trying to get hold of some contact details for the CAW - website is not working. Am buying an uncle who is local (Stithians) some equipment for his birthday and it would be good for him to connect with some experienced locals.

Any details gratefully received

Many thanks

You have a PM.
Phil.

If anyone needs to get hold of them they can PM me - the website is dire.
I can pass them on to other people if needs be. The last Friday of the month is club meet, turning nights are Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays 7.00pm to 10.00pm. Dozen or so lathes and a decent shop.

The information I posted is from the AWGB website and looks like it could do with being updated

I had no idea there was such a thing down here. Am I getting it right that the lathes are available weekly on those days you mentioned, and it's a social on the last Friday? Would I be able to get something of a lathe introduction? I'm coming from a pole lathe background (and haven't done that for a few years) so a general heads up on the machine side would be handy! Shame it's not a bit closer though, I'm near Liskeard.

Yep. Turning Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and the monthly meet on the last Friday of the month. I missed last night's having been in hospital, which is unfortunate as the TOTY runs Nov. to Nov. and I wanted to enter every month this year. I missed an all day professional demo for £15 as well ...shame ...
All you need is there (there is at least one pole lathe man as well) - a large bandsaw, four double ended grinders and jigs and a shop, free tuition any night and it is quite reasonable at £30 p.a. plus £5 per night for turning nights (first two nights free). PM me if you ever decide to give it a go - the place is a nightmare to find in the dark.

Sounds ideal - although the downside for me is getting there after work (from Devon), hmm, probably Thursday would be the only doable day as I don't work Friday. Would be great for an intro though - I'll drop you a PM. I spent the weekend building and trying to get working a bench bungee lathe jig (after a Richard McGuire design). It's kind of working, but needs a tweak, or three!

Just wanted to say a public thanks to phil.p for taking the time last night to introduce me to the Cornwall Association of Woodturners, down in the murky depths of Wheal Jane mine (no not really down the mine). They are a good bunch of chaps, and have a great set up there. Anyone living down this way who has thought about wood turning, or wants inspiration/help would be well advised to go and give them a try. So thanks Phil!
