I need to get one of those contour/profile gauges. The type with the movable pins.

Are there any acknowledged best ones out there? The review of both of those on axi seem poor.

I want to use it for picture frame profiles, skirting etc. I would like one that doesn't lose the profile the second that I move it.

I've got an Emco like that one. It was on eBay, probably under a tenner. Don't get a modern budget imitation.

With thanks to our expert in both tools and tat, I was told that there was an interesting gauge in the David Stanley auction. Unfortunately we missed that one but it gave me a good starting place to search and I found the same make on eBay.

This one arrived today. I am surprised by the weight, it is quite a heavy item. Seems very well made and should be ideal for what I want.

It is a little bit stiffer than I think it should be. What should I use to clean the fingers- meths or acetone, or is there something better. It feels like old oil on them.
