I need to make a joint (easily removeable)
Join1.jpg

the joint also needs to be able to slip down before attaching
a dowel will not be possible..due to downward movement required

I hope the pics help

I have thought about a bracket or a steel plate used as a loose tenon

any better ideas please?

i dont really understand what you are trying to achieve. does it need to slide into the mortice and then down to stop it pulling out?

what is the context?

does this help ?

I am using the knockdown on bottom rail
I can't use on top rail

a) it will be seen
b it is ugly as pineapple
c) dangerous for little fingers

I cant use the barrels as the bolt is too wide for 14mm thick timber

I know I could have bought thicker timber but I wanted it quite delicate
I also had the timber in a sawn state and 14mm was all i could get out of it

maybe I need a re-design

Steve

could you use the idea of the ugly ones and make something nicer- ie the hole and the hooked part?

ok a couple of more crazy thoughts

can u get anything like door security bolts..(the things with a fluted key) but in miniature?

or a completey recessed lock as used on a jewllery box?

i would then just have a keyhole

Steve

I think style B in the link would work, you could use smaller socket headed bolts and plug the holes.

I would like to suggest bed hooks. I believe they will achieve your desired effect as well as being discreet

i can see them in images when googling
and may be the answer
a uk supplier may be a challenge
remember i only have 50mm to play with

Steve

How about simply making a threaded hole, with a tap, in the end of the drop in piece and a corresponding hole in the upright.

Drop the rail into position and secure by screwing the bolt through the upright into it.

If drilling straight is a problem either make a jig or Axminster drilling guide @ £8.45.
