Jim McCormick, 57, who was convicted at the Old Bailey on Tuesday of three counts of fraud. This is the egregious toe-rag who caused an unknown number of deaths by selling fake bomb detectors.

What compounded the problem was a whistleblower who contacted two MPs (Labour minister Ian Pearson who oversaw export controls at the time and the James Arbuthnot chairman of the Commons defence select committee) to alert them to the fraud was totally ignored...not even acknowledged.

I have a great idea. Instead of jailing McCormick and wasting money, why not send him out to clear a minefield. Tell him to keep on walking through it.

That's unfair. Those detectors work at least as well as dowsing.

An absolute toe rag as stated, but you have to admire the bare-faced cheek of someone who can sell over 6,000 units at $40,000 each, when they are clearly utterly worthless.

He even claimed that if you wanted to detect a particular substance you could seal it in a jar with one of the stickers provided in the kit. After allowing the aromas to be "absorbed" by the sticker, the sticker was then inserted into the machine which would then act as a specific detector for that substance.

I also note that there are two Iraqi officials in jail for corruption in relation to this scam.
