This has been raised before, but it's still worth mentioning. My fixed rate hasn't expired yet, but I had an email from the collective I buy through, so I checked it out. A change of supplier (electricity only, no gas here) and £170 off next years bill. I gave my neighbour the rate I will be paying, and she told me what hers was, then she said she couldn't be bothered to hunt around. I said I'd just saved £170 for 20 minutes on the phone - I've never eared £500 an hour! If I were paying the same rate as her it would be costing me £474 a year more, without allowing for my standing charge being lower than hers as well. Not exactly pence. This was The Great British Collective - I'm sure there are others as well. If you've never done it before, go for it - it's quite painless, just make sure you have details of your account and your consumption handy.
