This has been raised before, but it's still worth mentioning. My fixed rate hasn't expired yet, but I had an email from the collective I buy through, so I checked it out. A change of supplier (electricity only, no gas here) and £170 off next years bill. I gave my neighbour the rate I will be paying, and she told me what hers was, then she said she couldn't be bothered to hunt around. I said I'd just saved £170 for 20 minutes on the phone - I've never eared £500 an hour! If I were paying the same rate as her it would be costing me £474 a year more, without allowing for my standing charge being lower than hers as well. Not exactly pence. This was The Great British Collective - I'm sure there are others as well. If you've never done it before, go for it - it's quite painless, just make sure you have details of your account and your consumption handy. :D

I do my electricity and gas through the Money Saving Expert. Saving a fortune every year without all the legwork. Best thing I ever did. If I could only persuade my wife that fitting a woodburning stove in the house would save us another £500 plus a year and have a warmer house I would be really happy. I run a full time cabinet making business and plank all my own timber. I can also get as many old whisky casks as I want and they are brilliant in the workshop stove. She's nuts!

I've just had a stove fitted - brilliant, we had one in our last house. We've got the boiler for it but haven't had it fitted yet due to financial constraints, but that'll knock holes the electricity bill.

Mmmm whiskey flavored oak smoked fish and cheese you could do a nice sideline selling shavings for home smoking, they sell well on fleabay. and for that ~Idea that will make you a fortune there is no charge, just a few small bags of shavings a year to smoke my fish with, hee hee

Wood burners Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Just this last few minuets, I have had to close up all of our windows, because two doors down has stoked up his wood burner, dirty air polluting b!$$@y things.

Working out how to capture this pollution, then feed it back through his letter box.

Take care.
