My dad lived in Perth, and used jarrah a lot. I watched him drill pilot holes for pins in a piece of quadrant made of jarrah. I reckon it's a lovely looking wood for one-off pieces like this, but a lot of it one place can be a bit reddy/ orange, and make you think you're back in the 1950s.

I think that most of the jarrah was from the south west of WA, but it is now protected, as I understand it. When they stopped cutting jarrah, lots of people swapped over to karri, and then that got protected too (again...these are just childhood memories, so could be wrong).
 
A little late to comment on this, however i did want to say - Amazing work. Well done, and more importantly thank you! At the end of a long day in the shop, you still took the time to document it so the rest of us mere mortals could enjoy your work.
